Follow-up: Refute your opinions regarding sports officiating

This exercise was originally posted at: http://maritimeorca0.blogspot.com/2013/07/refute-your-opinions-regarding-sports.html

The Task

Refute your opinions regarding sports officiating. Determine what your opinion is and create an argument against it.

My Idea

Officials are human. That means that their mistakes are nothing more than human nature. They might make bad calls on occasions, but all teams are subjected this problem. This is why they receive so much criticism. When people see a questionable call that hurts their team, fans are likely to react. The problem with this is that we are essentially complaining that they are human.

Officials for all top-level sports leagues have to prove their skill to reach the top, and they are right more often than they are wrong. We need to respect the job that they are doing to encourage them to strive to reach the top. Making a few mistakes during their careers should not diminish everything that they do right. Unfortunately, nobody notices the abundance of correct calls that they make.

Notes

The purpose of this exercise is not to provide an outlet for me to vent my frustrations, so I’m not going to go into details regarding why I am not supportive of officials right now. What I can say is that I’m not about to change my mind and start loving them.
