Follow-up: How do you feel that jobs you have had in the past, currently have, and will have in the future fail to represent who you are?

This exercise was originally posted at: http://maritimeorca0.blogspot.com/2015/09/how-do-you-feel-that-jobs-you-have-had.html

The Task

Answer the question: How do you feel that jobs you have had in the past, currently have, and will have in the future fail to represent who you are?

I have always hated how people use jobs as shortcuts to learn who someone is. We are all more than our work, or at least I hope that we are. Explain key traits that clearly go beyond your job duties and how revealing your job can mislead the public about who you really are. Try not to limit your answer to just your present job. As an added challenge, I highly suggest that you do not explain what your job is. This will discourage others from jumping to conclusions about you.

As with all questions regarding who you are, this question is more challenging and more valuable if you are honest with yourself.

Follow-up: What are your goals in life?

This exercise was originally posted at: http://maritimeorca0.blogspot.com/2014/12/what-are-your-goals-in-life.html

The Task

Answer the question: What are your goals in life?
Try to come up with some long-term goals for such things as what you want to accomplish in life and how you define success. While you can include vocational goals, those are usually overdone. I would prefer to see some more personal goals, especially in regards to becoming the person that you want to be. As with all questions regarding who you are, this question is more challenging and more valuable if you are honest with yourself.

Follow-up: What are your defining beliefs?

This exercise was originally posted at: http://maritimeorca0.blogspot.com/2014/07/what-are-your-defining-beliefs.html

The Task

Answer the question: What are your defining beliefs?

Come up with a list of beliefs that help define who you are. Try to find the reason behind how you act and what shapes your thoughts and opinions. Ideally, these beliefs should be able to stand the test of time. If a big part of your life deals with something you don’t like about the modern world (or do like), it’s better to explain why rather than say what you like or dislike. Things change, and you don’t want to define yourself by an opinion that might not be valid any more (although your beliefs can and should evolve over time, which is another way to potentially invalidate defining beliefs).

Follow-up: Are you happy?

This exercise was originally posted at: http://maritimeorca0.blogspot.com/2012/11/are-you-happy.html

The Task

Answer the question: Are you happy?

In many ways, happiness is the ultimate goal in life. Unfortunately, most people don't actually know if they are happy. We are bombarded so much with what we should think that whether or not we consider ourselves happy has more to do with outside influences rather than our actual feelings. We need to look past those influences so that we can understand ourselves.
